Leaks indicate that Christian Bale’s (right) look as Marvel villain Gorr in Thor: Love and Thunder will be different from what the character looks like in the comics (left).

Thor: Ragnarok, the fourth instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will be released this summer.
Thor: Love and Thunder sees Natalie Portman reprise her role as Jane Foster and take over the role of Thor from Chris Hemsworth. Christian Bale plays Gorr the God Butcher in the film, which introduces a new villain to the MCU. While Christian’s appearance in the film has not been revealed, leaked products associated with the film may have done so.

Gorr the God Butcher is a strong entity in the Marvel universe, as his name suggests. In Marvel Comics, he has a personal vendetta against Gods, making him a natural foe of Gods like Thor, the God of Thunder. There isn’t much information on how the MCU wants to represent the character, save from a few grainy leaked set photos. Even in the stolen photos, numerous fans pointed out that since CGI has been incorporated to the MCU, on-set looks are frequently different from how the character appears on screen.

However, recently, pictures of the action figures tied to Thor: Love and Thunder, have been uncovered by Murphy’s Multiverse. This official merchandise gives the first good look at MCU’s Gorr. Fans pointed that MCU’s adaptation seems a bit different from the comics. While it retains the character’s white pale skin and black sword, the similarities end there. Unlike the comics, the character lacks the tentacles on the side of the face and a black robe. A printed image on the side of the toy’s box also gives a look of Christian Bale’s look as the character.

The distinctive look has elicited varied comments from fans. While some are expecting anger because it isn’t comic accurate, others have praised the unique approach. As one Twitter user put it, “This looks like a marble statue without the black robe. Why? “Another supporter defended the design, saying, “Marvel has yet to disappoint with its interpretations. Let’s see where this goes.”

Thor: Love and Thunder is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4 and is directed by Taika Waititi. Tessa Thompson, Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Karen Gillan, Jeff Goldblum, and Vin Diesel star alongside Chris, Natalie, and Christian in the film. On July 8, 2022, the film will be released.
